Barber charged for assault, granted bail
An 80-year-old barber of East La Penitence Squatting Area, Georgetown, was yesterday released on $40,000, bail after he was charged for assaulting a woman who woke him from his sleep, in an aggressive manner.
The defendant, Alexi Haynes, appeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The charge alleges that on December 31, 2019, at East La Penitence, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Candace Porter.
Haynes then told the court that on the day in question, he was in bed sleeping, when he felt someone waking him up in an aggressive manner.
He then added that the woman went out and put on “nails like claws” and he was just defending himself.
Based on the explanation the defendant gave to the court, Principal Magistrate McGusty entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
The matter was adjourned to January 29, 2020.
