The second Annual Patrick Ford Memorial boxing tournament will be staged on February 15, 2020 with four countries set to participate. The
tournament, which was birthed last year, will have Guyana, Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago battling each other according to promoter Alford McDonald of McDonald Promotions.
Last year only Trinidad and Tobago and the host nation participated. Then Caribbean Bantamweight champion Keevin Allicock took care of Trinidadian nemesis Anthony Joseph, while former Caribbean middleweight champion Desmond Amsterdam edged Trinidadian Aaron Prince in the main bout.
McDonald disclosed that international bouts are being arranged for Caribbean Champions Alesha and Abiola Jackman.
“I am personally impressed of the Jackman’s achievements so far. We have to keep exposing these two young women and we at McDonald Promotions will continue to do our part to assist in their development,” McDonald declared.
The competition was organized by the Guyana Boxing Association to honour the contributions of featherweight boxer Patrick Ford, the first Guyanese to fight for a world title. It has been held in conjunction with McDonald Promotions ever since. Ford challenged Salvador Sanchez on September 13, 1980 but lost via a point’s decision after 15 rounds.
