Police on the Corentyne, led by Assistant Superintendent Mahendra Singh, yesterday morning captured a man wanted for the alleged rape of a close relative.
Kaieteur News was informed that the officer saw a Facebook post in October that the man fled to Berbice.
The alleged rapist was arrested at a house he shared with another female at Manchester Village, Corentyne.
The You Are Not Alone (YANA) organization, founded by Melly Mel, posted a detailed report given by the alleged victim.
The victim, who stated that she wrote CSEC this year, detailed that she was raped by the man in 2018 and shortly after she found out she was pregnant with his child.
She revealed the harrowing details of that unfortunate day.
“I had just gotten out of a bath when he covered my nose and mouth with something. He had his way while I laid unconscious on my mothers’ bed. When I woke up, I felt lost and bruised.”
According to her, she left home to stay with her cousin and eventually garnered the courage to tell her mother.
When she eventually told her mother, they visited the Ministry of Social Protection and subsequently the police station.
The man was arrested and released after 72 hours.
The teen said she felt as though the police did not take her case seriously but when a test was done and it was discovered that she was pregnant, the accused relative “ran away” to Berbice where he struck up a new relationship with a woman and eventually moved in with her.
