Just recently the Mahaicony Government Secondary School (MGSS) received a donation of a quantity of science related equipment to further enhance their Science IT Laboratory.
This was yet another initiative by the overseas-based MGSS North America Alumni Association, who donates according to the school on an annual basis. The MGSS North America Alumni Association is a body made up of past students who attended the local school and reside overseas.
Handing over the items on behalf of the organisation was past student and group member, Mr. Rannie Sealey who expressed the hope that the donation will be appreciated and that its usage redound a significant increase in student passes in the Science subject stream.
He said that the donation has been made possible from personal financial contributions, and various fund raising events, held by the Association in the United States, to purposely generate funds to purchase these equipment.
He explained that two years ago, the Association had enquired from the school, what was the most urgent need of the school, and was advised that the school desperately needed science equipment.
Arising from that disclosure, the Association within two short years was able to deliver yet another goodwill gesture in handing over to the school, equipment costing US$8,000.
He noted that the MGSS North America Alumni Association, has always been a caring set of Alumni, and will continue to be mindful, and contribute generously to the needs of the school to help it maintain a distinguished reputation.
The association has definitely contributed to the enhancement of the school’s reputation. It is on record that between 2009 and October 2019, the association made the following contributions to the school.
In 2009, the association donated a photocopy machine and computers to the tune of US$10 000, while in 2013, the school received yet another gift of antivirus software and cash to build furniture to the tune of US$3,900.
In 2014, the association built a new basketball court at a cost of US$11,000, while in 2009 to 2018 the contribution to the school’s graduation ceremonies, amounted to US$5,916.
During this period, also, monetary grants to CXC students amounted to US$7,601, while in 2019 the school received a donation of science equipment amounting to US$8,226.
Cumulatively, the association has contributed US$46,743.between the years 2009 and 2019 to the welfare and academic wellbeing of the students of the school.
