A resident of Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara, was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-
Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a sexual assault charge which was held in camera.
Wazeer Potter, the defendant denied the charge which alleged that on August 8, 2018, at Garden of Eden he raped a 14-year-old-boy.
According to reports Potter picked up the young boy while he was playing in the yard and took him some distance away to a house and committed the offence.
After the alleged offence was committed, the victim rushed home to his grandmother crying and explained to her what had happened.
The matter was later reported and Potter went into hiding. He was recently caught by the police and put before the court.
Principal Magistrate Marcus remanded the defendant to prison and adjourned the matter to October, 2, 2019.
