The Central Islamic Organisation (CIOG) wishes to highlight the current constitutional fracture following the passing of the September 18, 2019 deadline attributable to the CCJ’s ruling and the consequential orders that followed.
As a stakeholder, CIOG recognises the urgency for the announcement of an early election date, thus allowing the convening of regional and general elections.
CIOG also notes that as a result of the current constitutional vacuum, there exists across our country a fracture that needs mending immediately. This fracture has a negative resultant effect to the socio economic well-being of our people.
In this regard, CIOG calls for adherence to the ruling of the CCJ and adherence to the constitution.
As is known, the CIOG remains an apolitical observer with our concern being the stability of our nation. In keeping with our civic duty, we are once again offering our support to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to fulfil its constitutional mandate in ensuring that elections are conducted expeditiously and in the best interest of maintaining stability in our nation.
Highest regards,
Shahabudeen Ahmad
President
Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana
