Staffers at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) are soon to be exposed to foreign language training, according to officials at the medical institution.

Several GPHC staffers are to be trained to speak French and Spanish after a growing problem in communicating with Cubans, Venezuelans and Haitians.
As indicated by top officials yesterday, management at this facility has taken this course of action since they have been encountering difficulties when attempting to administer medical service to foreigners coming to the hospital.
Officials noted yesterday that over the months the institution has seen a great influx of Haitians, Brazilians, Cubans and Venezuelans seeking medical services.
They said that because of the language barrier, there have been problems.
Medical staff there has encountering difficulties when attempting to solicit the necessary particulars of patients to facilitate treatment, and to also gather vital information that can assist them with the proper and correct diagnosis.
Already, the GPHC has singled out 30 employees who will be exposed to both intermediate and advanced foreign language courses which will be conducted in the training room at the institution.
This will include persons shortlisted from departments that houses doctors, nurses and administrative personnel as well.
The courses will last for six months after which successful participants will be certified.
Those selected will be taught French and Spanish.
