The revelations that City Hall will move to penalise officers who provide inaccurate and/or incomplete information to Council (KN August 29) and the Chief Citizen’s no-nonsense threatens that he will shut businesses, which continue to owe rates in another news outfit have to be seen as firm and positive steps by the administration.
However, it is somewhat baffling that a decision to discipline errant officers had to come from around the horse-shoe table.
I would have thought that once it was found that officers either knowingly misled or were negligent in the execution of their duties then the relevant recommendation for disciplinary action would be triggered.
Anyway, it is good to see these developments which can only impact positively on Council.
