Guyana a nation that was once looked down upon by sister Caribbean Nations, has in the last four years come to a place where she is now envied by neighbours, for her abundant oil resources recently discovered offshore. This new found wealth has however motivated some selfish political figures to fan the flames of race politics as their trump card to the seat of government, a move that can only lead to national self destruction.
When the motive behind an act is wrong, once the goal of that act is achieved, that motive will express itself boldly. In the case of the Guyanese politicians presenting themselves to be those looking out for the interest of one of Guyana’s six races, that motive is greed – the same greed that was displayed previously by the said campaigners.
Nationalism base on ethnicity is foolishness. Guyana must be for all Guyanese. Those who seek to rebuild walls of ethnic divide must be treated with disdain by all genuine Guyanese. No one must be allowed to carry out crimes against the state, and hide under the race for race banner. Those who stole from the state have stolen from us all.
The race for race politics must never be allowed to rule in Guyana again. National development must also continue in all 10 regions, and no political group must be allowed to get away with developing their strong holds only. Our song of unity must now become our life style.
Some may hate me for saying this, but those who teach hate can never display real love. When it comes to my fellow Guyanese, for me it is one love. I have a dream of all my countrymen living as one, and the leader or party who works toward the fulfillment of that dream I support with no apology.
