Everyone knows the story how Columbus discovered the western world centuries after it was inhabited by people whom had already called it home. Guyana’s leaders since independence seem to be on parallel with Columbus on discoveries. Recent letters to this newspaper by these past leaders and others in decision making capacity seem to support this theory. After doing a job for donkey years Hamilton Green, Clement Rohee and Gail Teixeira have suddenly discovered procedures for good governance and part of Jagdeo’s new campaign message,. Jagdeo has discovered having a mailbox open to the public where people can post their concerns, would give government a clearer picture on issues affecting the public. Now that Grainger’s ship seems to lost somewhere, what will happen years from now? Will Ramotaur and Trotman discover resource contracts should be signed and implemented for the benefit of the Guyanese people after a transparent process with competent advice? Will Jagdeo and Harmon discover doing business with foreign governments must go through parliament or it would be unethical? Will all leaders with decision making power discover it is their duty to serve the people of this country and not themselves?.Since the leaders of Guyana are being paid by the people to make decisions on their behalf, it is time they discover how to make these decisions for the benefit of this country, the sooner the better.
