Floyd Cumberbatch is King of Draughts
The final of the National Draughts Competition, King of Draughts tournament, was played last Sunday at the National Gymnasium. Five qualifiers who advanced from the playoff two weeks ago, keenly contested for the title.
The outstanding Draughts performers take time out for a photo at the conclusion of the championship.
Taking the crown was Linden player Floyd Cumberbatch who took a commanding lead of 25 points to win the title, while Wilbert Freeman emerged second with 22 points. Steve Bacchus edged Jiaram to occupy the third spot, while Mr. Jiaram had to settle for the fourth position. The lone B Class player Lyndon Heywood proved no match for the bigger boys, he ended with a paltry 5 points.
All the players were awarded with small packages. Mr. Aubrey John, Manager of GT Wines Inc. gave samples to the top four finishers. GT wines is the latest of wines manufactured in Guyana. Draughts enthusiasts Mr. Fazal Ishak donated two sets of draught pieces to the Association. Other donations came from Noble House seafoods and Attorney at Law Gentle Elias.
The tournament was organized by Linden coordinator, Floyd Cumberbatch and President of the Association Mr. Jiaram.
