Levi Stephens was yesterday sentenced to 12 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the unlawful killing of Arnold Gordon.
Stephens was originally indicted for the murder which occurred in March 2017. However when he appeared before Justice Navindra Singh at the Georgetown High Court this morning, the accused pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter.
In presenting the facts of the case to court, State Prosecutor Sarah Martin said that on the day of the incident, Gordon went fishing with his nephew.
The Prosecutor related that Gordon’s nephew saw when an argument erupted between him and Stephens. Ms. Martin said that during the argument the accused attacked his uncle with a piece of wood.
The nephew reportedly left the scene to get help but when he returned he could not find his uncle or the accused. The man was reportedly discovered 24 hours after the incident; he was buried in a shallow grave in Stephens’s backyard.
Before he was sentenced, Attorney -at -law, Mark Conway beseeched the court for mercy claiming that his client is very remorseful for his actions. Prior to handing down the sentence, Justice Singh advised Stephens to seek anger management courses whilst serving time in prison.
