Appalling conditions at UG’s Turkeyen Campus

I have been following the situation surrounding the Vice Chancellor at the University of Guyana. Currently, there are some appalling conditions at Turkeyen. On Friday last at 17:00 hrs, I was taking an exam in the CBJ LR1. The exam was11/2 hrs long however, at approximately 18:00 hrs the lecturer was forced to collect the students paper because there was no electricity in the room. This building is not on the backup power grid apparently.
I had sent you pictures of students doing their presentation in darkness over a year ago in the same building but it hasn’t been fixed as yet. Secondly, there hasn’t been running water in the washrooms outside GWLT and CBJLR1 for weeks. Further, there is only one washroom open in CBJLR1 where both males and females have to share. I’m afraid of the likely implications of this.
Additionally, if you’re in CBJLR 2 and 3, the washroom has been locked for months now. So if you wish to use the washroom, you have to disturb the class in CBJLR1 to do so. These are some of the gross conditions at UG that include garbage all over the campus and insufficient furniture. Today (yesterday) is English finals and the horror of finding a seat will continue as usual. Last semester I sat at the window in CBJLR1 for English exam, and I saw a classmate pass 5 times unsuccessfully looking for a seat in one of the buildings to write the exam. In all of this Ms Campbell, the programme head, stood in front of the class talking about integrity while students could not find a seat.
