DEAR EDITOR,
Over the past months, I’ve been faced with a frustratingly embarrassing dilemma. I have been disconnected prior to the due date on my bills, and have been asked to pay a reconnection fee.
Upon visiting the GWI’s customer service unit, who are far from courteous, I’ve been informed that there’s an adjustment made after the service has been disconnected and I should revisit the office a week after disconnection.
I have requested that my meter be checked and serviced if necessary, and was not afforded this request until two months after, but have been disconnected a day past due. This strange occurrence leaves one to think that GWI is in the business of rooting persons’ hard earned monies out of their pockets by applying an exorbitant reconnection fee of $7500 as compared to the disparaging low sums you are often disconnected for.
I work out of town, therefore I would resort to the GWI billing app that I assumed to be up to date with all current charges, however this is not the case, therefore the app can be said to be useless.
On the 10th day of May 2019, I was disconnected, but my bill and the GWI reflect a due date of 21st May 2019.
I am therefore requesting that GWI rectify their billing system and fix their app to reflect all outstanding balances and due dates, and they review the egregious reconnection fees.
