DEAR EDITOR,
My letter relates to a situation, which happens month after month at the Enmore Post Office.
Persons, mainly Indians, would go to the Enmore Post Office to uplift their NIS and Old Age benefits and are made to join lines and many are later told “money finish”.
While they are in the line, persons from neighbouring villages would be allowed to bypass the line and get their benefits.
It seems as if the Ministry of Social protection is broke and sends limited money to the Post Office and racism does not help the situation.
Editor, I challenge you to prove me wrong and do an undercover exercise between the 1st to 8th of every month. Talk to Indians and you will hear their stories.
Unfortunately, talking about racism seems to be taboo in Guyana. But it eats away cancerously at our existence. And racism runs deep and people are badly bruised by it.
Ramzan’s (TV personality) father was one Indian victim today. What has Ramzan done to assert his Father’s right? Stay quiet and the situation goes on, month after month. My aunt-in-law was affected today. I am writing about it and I hope the so-called “Fourth Estate” will carry this piece.
Wouldn’t surprise me if it doesn’t. After all – this is Guyana; full of ostriches!
Charles Selman

(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Government, Guyanese leaders, and the Guyanese people had better come quickly to their senses about Surinam.
