Day two of the 2019 Caribbean Free Trade Association (Carifta) Games which is currently being contested in the Grand Cayman Islands, saw Anisha Gibbons winning Guyana’s third Gold medal, after she threw a top distance of 40.34m in the girls’ under-17 Javelin throw event.
Gibbons’ achievement added to Claudrice McKoy, who won the nation’s first Gold medal at the event after running a personal best time of 4minutes 39 seconds to win the girls’ under-20 1500m race on day one.
Just after press time on the first day, Chantoba Bright successfully defended her under-20 long jump title with an impressive leap of 6.05 metres.
However, in the triple jump, Bright (12.63m) had to settle for Silver after being out-leaped by Jamaican Lotavia Brown (13.09m).
Joanna Archer picked up Silver in the girls’ under-20 800m but an earlier surge from Monroe College student could have gotten her the Gold medal in her favoured race. Archer finished the race in a time of 2minutes 10 seconds, one second slower than Jasmine Knowles of the Bahamas.
