GPHC,CEO Brigadier Retired George Lewis flanked by Dr. Denbow and Dr. Ramdin with other GJFA members, Claudette Powell and Chauncey Lee and Senior GPHC staff.
The Guyana-Jamaica Friendship Association (GJFA) a US-based non-profit organization has promised help to both Suddie Hospital and the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
At a simple ceremony on Monday, Association Member Dr. Nadia Ramdin, a cancer specialist in Pennsylvania, USA, presented Medical Superintendent of the Suddie Hospital Dr. Sonia Gray, a fetal heart monitor probe which would be of great benefit to pregnant patients at the Suddie Hospital.
Dr. Ramdin promised that there would be other medical equipment donated to the Suddie Hospital in the near future as well as increased collaboration between her hospital in the US and Suddie Hospital which would benefit cancer patients from Guyana.
GJFA also met with CEO of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, Brigadier Retired George Lewis, and other senior officials of the Corporation on Wednesday to discuss ways to implement significant collaboration
between Dr. Ramdin’s hospital in Pennsylvania, USA and GPHC whereby pathology slides and other tests can be discussed and advice given for treatment protocols to be used for local patients.
President of GJFA, Dr. Frank Denbow, said that GJFA plans to step up its programme of cooperation with the Guyanese Medical Community with Biennial Medical Symposia and annual Medical missions particularly to the Essequibo Coast of Guyana.
Dr. Denbow, who participated in a Medical Symposium last Sunday, heaped praise on Dr. Nadia Ramdin, also of the GJFA who in 2017 was awarded National Honors for her services to Medicine.
The symposium featured Nutrition and Disease at the Arthur Chung Convention Center along with Dr. Raymond Massay of Barbados and Ms Abigail Caleb of the Ministry of Public Health,
