Sophia man denies murdering elderly dad
Murdered: Rickford Bourne
Kumey Bourne was arraigned yesterday before Justice Navindra Singh and pleaded not guilty to an indictment which alleged that he murdered his elderly father on May 23, 2016.
Bourne, also known as Kwame Bourne, and said to be 40, is on trial before a 12-member mixed jury at the High Court in Georgetown.
According to facts presented, the defendant lashed his father, Rickford Bourne, 72, several times with a metal pipe after coming home intoxicated. The injured man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed.
Kumey Bourne is being represented by Attorney-at-law Maxwell McKay. State Counsel Tuanna Harding, Abigail Gibbs and Teriq Mohamed are appearing for the prosecution, which is expected to call a total of 10 witnesses.
The trial continues today when Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh will testify as to the cause of death.
