A post mortem examination on the body of murdered Crabwood Creek poultry/rice farmer on Monday by government Pathologist Vivekanand Bridjmohan, revealed that Deoprakash “William” Lalbachan died from shock and haemorrage due to multiple stab wounds.
The autopsy was performed at the Skeldon Hospital Mortuary where his body was kept.
Kaieteur News was informed by the police that the individual that was detained for questioning has since been released but police continue to hunt for the prime suspect in the
death of the farmer.
Information reaching this publication has indicated that the suspect may have fled to neighbouring Suriname.
A senior police source had disclosed that the prime suspect was a previous employee of Lalbachan and at some point was fired from the job. A camouflage vest that was found at the scene of the crime was similar to that which was worn by the prime suspect earlier on the day of the killing, police said.
It was also disclosed that Lalbachan was heavily involved with the smuggling of pesticide from Suriname, an act that was reportedly done in partnership with a businessman from Crabwood Creek.
The source said, “He is believed to have made a huge investment with the smuggler (businessman) but didn’t pay out fully. So the thing is pointing at the people who supplied the items that the now deceased invested in and they may have contacted the very suspects who are known to the Lalbachan’s, to commit the act.”
The suspects gained entry through the kitchen window located in the bottom flat of the house. The wood was ripped out from the outside of the window and the grill appeared to be cut through.
Lalbachan was stabbed five times about the body after confronting the killers some time around 22:30 hrs Friday night. His wife, Nalini Lalbachan, was in the upper flat sleeping and his mother-in-law who suffers from Alzheimer’s was in a room in the bottom flat when the incident took place.
Police recovered the blood stained murder weapon, a knife, in the kitchen along with five parcels from the outside freezer thrown about in the backyard. There were also footprints in the backyard, the police said.
