Dear Editor,
I read your papers all the time and when I read your article yesterday about proxy fight, I got so fed up that I just had to write and hope that you publish this letter and not be afraid of the big one that just got hired. You know the visa fears and things like that.
Just recently, I read the last part to the Guyana Goldfields fourth quarter report in the Kaieteur newspaper (It is time this nonsense stop and someone stand up to say that you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time).
These people publish how they promote people while the same time, they sever another set including some long-term workers. We are hearing that people are getting sent home every day.
They recently had a big masquerade show going round and round the place with big ads saying that they are hiring laid off sugar workers. Let them state who and how many of these sugar workers that they hired.
A few weeks after that masquerade, we read again that they laid off over 80 workers and declared that they were closing exploration camps. Now I want to ask Minister Trotman, when they shut down these camps, did they give up the lands or are they just holding on to them.
Where is Simona Broomes and her women in mining group? Guyanese small miners are crying out for land. Give up the land so that Guyanese can own them and work them. Or give them to your laid off workers so that they can make a living.
Next, you read that the EPA tells them to stop doing any kind of underground work. These people did not only not stop working but as bold as brass; they announced that they were working still. The EPA had to bring out their big stick and threaten them. It is just plain ‘eye pass’ to Guyanese
Next, they announce big to Trotman that they will produce over 200,000 ounces in 2018. Every time you hear from them, the number keeps getting down and down until it reached 150,000 ounces according to the newspapers.
Now we read that they have thrown out one of their own who joined up with some others and are saying that they lost $250M in one day.
On and on this is going. Now we are reading again in the newspapers that they have hired a big one to make them look good. When will this group stop?
Guyanese are not foolish people. We know what is going on. The Government ought to stop letting these people think that we are fools. They must be laughing their heads off in their fancy office overseas.
We want the work and the little revenue but for Christ’s sake, stop with all the pappy show. Guyanese people do read the newspapers and keep up with the news. It is time Guyana Goldfields come clean with the Guyanese people.
Concerned worker

By Sir Ronald Sanders (Kaieteur News) – Haiti’s plight must not be forgotten because it is no longer a regular feature of international headlines. The suffering has not diminished.
