Guyana is certainly heading for some exciting times and we should be optimistic and see the opportunities. Our democracy is maturing in keeping with a developing country where citizens have the right to choose those who represent them in their villages, Parliament and ultimately the Government.
With this in mind, I believe that both major parties will have to choose new leaders and I would like to share my bit on choosing the new Presidential Candidate of the Opposing PPP/C. As a third generation PPP supporter I believe I have a moral right to state my views and choice for the next candidate because ultimately I will be affected and the rest of the country by the choice of the incoming PPP Presidential Candidate.
I would like to unequivocally state my disapproval of Irfaan Ali being on the list of potential list of candidates to be considered. I say so from reports and first hand witnessing his arrogance, pettiness, shady management of the housing sector, unfair distribution of house lots, favouring of his friends, some Muslim brothers, women and of course business partners.
His tract record has been marred with inconsistencies and mismanagement. He single-handedly chooses who he wanted to receive house lots over those with legitimate requests and was even willing to bend rules and regulations to his whims and fancy.
These are not only my personal views but the culmination of views of ordinary grass root citizens of our country across both political divides. As such, I, on behalf of the voiceless ordinary lifelong supporters of the PPP, demand better of the executive members of the PPP to make a choice that will be welcomed by the grassroots and not only by the executives.
A wide cross section of supporters have indicated they WILL NOT ACCEPT Irfaan Ali as a Presidential Candidate, but will be willing to vote with a clear conscious for Frank Anthony, Anil Nandlall, Gail Teixeira, Bishop Edghill or even Charles Ramson, Nigel Dharamlall, Vindya Persaud, Collin Croal and Shyam Nokta in no specific order.
The Executive of the PPP in going forward needs to make a choice of Presidential Candidate for all of Guyana and not choose or disapprove of a potential candidate because of personal likes and dislikes but by proven track record of competency, commitment to Party and Country and most of all humility.
Sincerely,
S. Hamid (Jnr.)
Third Generation PPP Supporter
