A doctor and an auto-body repairman of Industry, East Coast Demerara, were both shot and robbed after being traced from a bank at around midday yesterday.
The bodywork man and the doctor whose car he is repairing, had just pulled up in front of the bodywork shop in Crown Dam Industry when they were attacked and shot – the repairman in his hand and the doctor in his foot. Both men were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where they were treated for gunshot wounds and have since been admitted.
In a telephone interview with Kaieteur News from his hospital bed, the repairman related that he and the doctor had just left the bank and had pulled up in front of his workshop, when a Silver-grey Toyota Premio came up in front of his car and a man exited with a gun in his hand.
The gun-toting bandit then discharged rounds into the repairman’s car hitting him in the hand. The man said he didn’t even realize that the doctor was hit. He said the bandit then reached into the car and grabbed the bag that the doctor had the money in, which he had just withdrawn from the bank. The bandit then, “walked away fast, and gone”.
When Kaieteur News arrived on scene, the police were processing the car with the hope of getting any evidence that would help in capturing the perpetrators. The repairman’s car had two shattered front door windows and the left side front door showed a bullet hole.
A blood trail led from the car to the workshop suggesting that the repairman ran into the yard after the shooting occurred. When asked how he knew that the car had been trailed him from the bank, he said, “when we left the bank, we drive through the road before BV main road, and the same car pull in front me and I thought that he was dodging a hole, so I drove around him and went my way, me ain’t realize that that was the first attempt to get me to stop.”
The man was thankful to be alive, because only a few years ago, bandits killed an individual who operates a parts business a few doors away from where this robbery occurred.
