Female vendor nearly kills man over $600 eddo leaf

An argument over $600 worth of eddo leaf has left a Bourda Market vendor nursing a stab wound in the region of his chest and another vendor facing an attempted murder charge.
Thirty-four-year-old Jewey Ferguson, of 38 Victoria, East Coast Demerara, appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where an attempted murder charge was read to her.

The allegation against Ferguson stated that on December 2, last, at Bourda, Georgetown, with intent to commit murder she wounded Nigel George.
She was not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to her by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that both parties are known to each other since they both sell at the Bourda Market.
Prosecutor Mansfield told the court that the woman gave George 10 packs of eddeo leaf to sell and return the proceeds — $600 to her. However, George failed to hand over the money to the woman when she requested it.
The Prosecutor went on to tell the court that on the day in question, Ferguson went to George’s stall where he sells and requested that he hand over the money.
An argument then ensued between the two and the woman pulled out a knife and stabbed George in the region of his chest.
An injured George was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was admitted and underwent surgery.
George who was present in court stated that he received a punctured lung due to the stab he received and is asking the court for justice.
However, Prosecutor Mansfield had no objection to bail being granted to Ferguson but asked that conditions be attached.
The Magistrate after listening to the Prosecutor released Ferguson on $250,000 bail. She was also instructed to report every Friday to the Alberttown Police Station.
Magistrate McLennan also placed Ferguson on a bond to keep the peace until the hearing and determination of the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) of the matter in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Ferguson was instructed to make her next court appearance on January 3.
