A 39-year-old porkknocker was yesterday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on an attempted murder charge.
Bronson Wiltshire, of 184 Charlotte Street, Bourda, was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on November 25, last, at Crush Hill, Oko Backdam, Essequibo, with intent to commit murder, he wounded Curt Walcott.
Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail for the defendant, based on the fact that the victim is still hospitalized. According to the prosecutor, Walcott was rushed to the Bartica Hospital and was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, after sustaining stab wounds to the head and abdomen.
The facts of the charge indicated that on the day in question, Walcott was at a night spot when he was approached by Wiltshire, who began to make demands for money that was allegedly owed to him for ‘weed’ he had sold to Walcott.
Walcott allegedly refused the request that was made, and it was then that Wiltshire, armed with a knife, reportedly inflicted the stab wounds on him.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan upheld the submission made by the prosecutor, and instructed that Wiltshire is to remain on remand until December 20, when he will make his next court appearance in Bartica.
