A teen on Friday found himself before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan after he was charged for an attempted murder.
The teen was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on November 10, 2018 at Hammerhead, Kaneville, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, he unlawfully assaulted Brian Sumeer with intent to commit murder.
The teen’s attorney, Stanley Moore, in his application for bail, told the court that the assailant is 17 years of age. He resides in Alexander Village with his mother. He had no previous convictions neither does he have any other matters in court.
The attorney pleaded for reasonable bail, which if granted could have conditions attached. However, police prosecutor, Neville Jeffers, objected to bail based on the penalty attached to such offences and the fact that a handgun was used.
The Prosecution informed the court that on the day in question, the teen, while armed with a handgun, fired two shots to Sumeer, one to the chest and the other to the auxiliary line.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan denied bail and instructed that the teen remain on remand until December 18 when he will make his next court appearance.
