A 24-year-old gold minerwas gunned down early yesterday on a trail in Puruni, Region Seven.
The body of the victim, identified as JavieBoyalof Waramuri, Moruca, North West District, was found yesterday.
A green and black haversack and a pair of long boots were near the body.
Residents nearby the area said that they were awakened by the sound of two gunshots at around 03:45 hours.
One man said that he saw someone moving along the trail before collapsing.
There are also reports that an individual known as ” Bean,” who is also before the courts for a gun-related offence, had shot at the victim from within a vehicle that was parked along the trail nearby the body, with what appeared to be a bullet-hole in the windscreen.
Bloodstains were also visible on the trail about 30 feet from the corpse.
The Purunicommunity is located 86 km by Road from the Itaballi Landing which is a 15- minute boat ride from the Bartica Town,
Residents said that this incident yet again highlights the urgent need for the presence of a police outpost in the Puruni Community. Residents said that theyare willing to help to finance such a project.
