DEAR EDITOR,
A commemorative symbol has been installed in front of Castellani House facing the Ministry of the Presidency to celebrate the 23rd Anniversary of the National Unity Monument on November 9th, 1995-2018. It is intended to sensitize Guyanese and visitors to the gallery of the existence of the Monument and also to attract support for the restoration of the Monument which is inundated during the rainy season.
The Monument was launched on June 13th, 1995, in memory of the late Guyanese Historian and Freedom Fighter Dr. Walter Anthony Rodney, for his indelible contribution to the struggle for National Unity.
The Monument is an embodiment of Guyanese Dynamic History and Diverse Cultural Heritage. The Pre-Colombian symbol at the summit is cosmological, associated with Happiness and Prosperity.
Unfortunately the Monument was never given National Recognition under the PPP or the APNU+AFC governments, even though they claim that their party’s platforms are National Unity.
Yours Faithfully
Desmond Alli (Architect of the National Unity Monument)
