The State Assets Recovery Agency on October 12, last, facilitated a pilot anti-corruption education session at the Adult Education Association.
This initiative is part of the agency’s 2018 campaign themed “Fighting corruption is everybody’s business”.
SARA aims to spread awareness and to educate the masses on the issue of corruption and how citizens from all walks of life can aid in reducing this phenomenon. It is against this backdrop that the agency over the last eight months engaged over 1,000 public officials from the Guyana Revenue Authority, Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force in anti-corruption workshops.
These engagements will continue in the New Year.
SARA will be conducting two more sessions with the Adult Education Association before a full school tour is launched in the New Year. Both Government and Private schools will be involved in the school tour.
While the task of recovering stolen assets is important to a developing nation like Guyana, SARA sees the prevention of assets being stolen as a critical part of its function, hence the need to educate persons especially the youth so that we can break the cycle of corruption.
