Vishok Persaud’s Lotus was unstoppable in Group Three last year during the CMRC final leg at South Dakota Circuit.
The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s (GMRSC) Ignite race meet speeds off this weekend with some anticipated match ups and the group three battle is expected to be intense since that title race is wide open.
Defending champion Vishok Persaud scored no points during the local first round of action at the South Dakota Circuit last March and that will make it very difficult for him to retain his title.
At the moment, the leader is Danny Persaud who has amassed 50 points after the first round and looks set to cop the championship.
His nearest competitor is Syed Hassan who has 30 points as he lies in second and Hassan is being chased by Rameez Mohamed and Motilall Deodass who are tied for third with 18 points each.
The group three battle will be spiced up with the large field of competitors that is expected to feature in this class.
In addition to Vishok, there is the unruly civic of Stefan Jeffrey which has undergone considerable work to be ready for Sunday’s meet. Testing during last month’s ‘test and tune’ event has shown that Jeffrey is a more than a capable competitor when the flag drops.
GMRSC’s Ignite, which forms the basis for the Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing championships (CMRC) final leg as well, is billed for both this Saturday and Sunday with expected overseas competition from Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), Jamaica and Canada as well as competitors out of Europe.
Tickets for the packed 27-race programme are on sale at the cost of $2500; children $1000 at B.M. Soat Auto Sales, Croal Street office.
On Saturday there will be the time trials beginning at 10:00hrs in all the classes followed by official races in the Street Cross Motorcyle, 125cc Motorcycle, Street Tuner, Choke Starlet Cup and Sports Tuner which will be 10 laps each from 13:20hrs.
The feature race on Saturday will see 20 grueling laps in the first anticipated clash in the SR3 Radicals Cup.
Meanwhile on Sunday, racing fans’ hunger for scorching action will be well satisfied with a packed 19-race programme.
