Prison officer, murder accused stabbed
A disruptive murder accused sustained eight stab wounds while a prison officer was stabbed to the arm and temple in a fracas at the Timehri Prison yesterday.
Both men have been hospitalized.
The inmate, who is on remand for murder, was reportedly stabbed by a prisoner who was convicted for murder.
According to a release, the rank was injured when he and two of his colleagues attempted to part the inmates.
The remand prisoner had reportedly become disruptive since Friday.
Based on information received from the Officer in Charge, he had threatened the life of a prison officer, and had also disrupted other inmates by kicking against a steel door on Friday night.
Police and prison officials are investigating.
