A 17-year-old male who was sentenced to the New Opportunity Corps on the Essequibo Coast, escaped from the facility last Monday after allegedly pushing down a 61 year old social service assistant.
The escape occurred around 13:00hrs on Monday, as 61-year-old Dale Dowding was escorting the teen to his cell. Kaieteur News understands that the juvenile pushed down the man, and made good his escape by running west in the big bushes.
The escapee has been identified as Tyrace Gonsalves of New Amsterdam, Berbice. He is of mixed race. Gonsalves was reportedly serving three years at the institution for breaking and entering and larceny. Just last month 13 juveniles escaped from the correctional facility, ten of them taking advantage of the unfenced western section in the NOC playground.
