Three days after a teenager was fatally stabbed after he went to the aid of a woman whose spouse had attempted to hit her, a Soesdyke man was on Wednesday charged with the teen’s murder.
Forty-year-old Anthony Jones, of Circuit Ville, Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/ Linden Highway was not required to plead to the charge which stated that on October 13; last, at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/ Linden Highway, he murdered 19-year-old Nyron Vyphuis.
The charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
He was represented by Attorney-at-Law James Bond who asked that statements in the matter be disclosed on his client next court appearance.
The Matter was prosecuted by Police Prosecutor, Simone Payne, who told the court that the file is incomplete and asked for more time to complete the matter.
The Magistrate remanded the father of five to prison and ordered him to make his next court appearance on November 6.
According to information, the accused and his common law wife were arguing and he attempted to hit her when the teen intervened.
It was reported that the accused became annoyed and an argument ensued between him and the teen whom he stabbed to his stomach.
An injured Vyphuis fell to the ground and was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The matter was reported and the accused was arrested.
