Patients of the Georgetown Public Hospital Cooperation (GPHC) have noted a reduction in the wait at the Accident and Emergency Department. Over the years, GPHC’s waiting period has posed an issue for patients visiting the hospital. However, noticeable strides were made by the government in achieving a lower period of waiting for these patients. A five-hour reduction was seen in the waiting period at the A&E department compared to just two-years back. Initially, overcrowding and a lack of nurses in the department were factored in as the main causes for the lengthy waiting period. The issue was then approached, and in turn, the department now has a higher number of nurses who are trained to handle the emotional stress that comes with being in the A&E. The atmosphere of GPHC, compared to what it was a few years ago, marks a considerable improvement in the system. Whilst there is still a process of waiting, one can conclude that, there has been substantial progression in operations at the department. Operating under the Triage system, patients will meet with a nurse who will later assess the priority of their condition. The system ensures that patients who require immediate care receive that said care.
It is a commonality for patients who have visited the A&E department to complain about the long wait that they may have experienced. However, citizens who have visited or worked at the hospital, have noted the improvement in its operations.
With more medical equipment and trained personnel, GPHC is on the path to a much more reduced waiting time and better health care for its patients.
