Dear Editor,
As a businessman who has supported the PPP and the Vergenoegen NDC, which overlooks the social matters of my village, I wish to bring to attention to those in authority of this blatant act that was committed by the NDC.
Prior to nomination day, the PPP councillors and party representative visited each home seeking our signatures in support of the nomination of Ms Latchmi, who is the present councillor (i.e., until the local Government election on Nov 9 2018. They collected the minimum of 30 signatures in support of this individual’s nomination for PPP village councillor. All of us who signed saw her name as the PPP nominee for the village. We signed in support for her as she has been an outstanding councillor over the years. We all know that she is an honest and out spoken individual who has the village’s best interest at heart.
Lo and behold, we were made to understand that there was a secret change of the nominee. Checks made on the list posted by the said NDC proved that this was true. The person who was thrust upon us as the PPP nominee is a known AFC supporter, who we were made to understand did a declaration in a hush hush ceremony at the NDC office proclaiming to no longer being an AFC supporter.
Absolutely no one from the NDC office came to notify the villagers that there was a change of nominee.
The NDC used our signatures to appoint this individual without first consulting us about this person or any other person who we see fit to replace the initial councillor nominee.
No reason was given by the NDC for the change of the initial nominee. No one from the NDC office saw it fit to consult the residents of the village, particularly those who signed the nomination form nominating Ms. Latchmi that there will be a change and who would we like to see as the new village councillor. Instead, this new individual has illegally replaced Ms. Latchmi as the nominee, whether it’s by the latter’s choice, we don’t know. All we know is that our signatures have been used.
I believe that this new individual does not and will not have this village interest at heart. Is there a secret and disturbing motive or benefit in nominating this person?
Again as an ardent supporter of the PPP, is this how we are supposed to shut up and tolerate?
There are educated farmers, Government officials who have senior positions, religious leaders, legitimate business persons, etc who reside in this village, but yet the NDC saw it proper to personally select someone else to represent the village.
When the NDC needed our support, they came with their nomination document begging for our signatures and now that we have questions, none can be seen?
Yours respectfully,
Concerned Businessman
