Dear Editor,
I submit to you that the Alliance For Change is a most peculiar and interesting political force. It must hold some international record for having the longest eulogy in the history of mankind. This eulogy commenced from the day it was formed in 2005. Despite success after the success in year after year the eulogising continues unabated for 13 years on the trot.
At its inception the party was dismissed as ‘wishy washy’ and the purveyors of doom consigned it to nothing but a mere passing tremor. It stuck around and grew and won six seats in the National Assembly in 2006. It received five of those seats. This historic achievement was dismissed as a fluke and, in another chapter of the eulogy, it was predicted that the party will fritter away.
The frittering did not materialize. The party grew and expanded and in 2011 increased its parliamentary seat haul to seven. Again it was condemned as a fading force and the pallbearers were told to be on standby.
The forecasting of fading failed. In 2014 the party piloted a No Confidence Motion in the then PPP regime which led to the PPP’s eventual downfall. In 2015 the AFC formed a Coalition with the APNU and won the government backed by the people of Guyana.
The AFC secured 12 parliamentary seats and eight Cabinet positions.
Since 2015 there has been eulogy after eulogy that the party has been subsumed and that it has died. Yet the party rises and soars, building its membership country-wide to a point now where it has more members than every before and will be, for the first time contesting Local Government Elections independently in 38 local government authorities.
The party’s official LGE campaign launch – the mega LGE Candidates Expo on Saturday last at its Centre For Change headquarters – has roused the eulogisers into action. The Guyana Times editorial continues to preach doom on the roaring and soaring AFC. No doubt it is expressing fear on behalf of its political benefactor – the PPP.
A prominent Kaieteur News columnist has also joined in, even as he manufactures lies and fake news that the AFC Leader spoke at the Saturday event in a lame attempt to bolster his weak pseudo-analysis. Mr. Trotman was in fact in Mahdia and Lethem on Saturday conducting official business, this was widely reported. That the columnist stated that Mr. Trotman was not only at the AFC event but that he spoke calls into question the columnist’s entire submission on the AFC. His analysis is impotent and lacks credibility.
The AFC continues to surprise and defy despite the naysaying and eulogising which has not resorted to manufacturing lies in an effort to consign the AFC to history. The AFC is not history, the AFC has a history of creating history and from the indications of the over-flowing Candidates Expo, it will continue to do so.
Yours faithfully
Dillon Goring
