The IDB needs to explain

Dear Editor,
I can hardly believe that KN had to retract the caption for an article on Oct 2nd, “Guyana’s politicians the least trusted by its citizens-IDB report”.” Least,” had to be replaced by “most”, giving the meaning a 360 degree spin. I cannot blame the reporter neither the Editor in context of the negativity they deal with on a daily basis in reporting what is taking place in Guyana. They were following a pattern that never veered off course.
Here are some of the headlines in KN on Oct 5th. (1) “MP among 81% of public officers who fail to declare assets.” (2) “NIS continues to struggle with low return from investment”. (3) “Stop being ceremonial president, solve teachers problem-Jagdeo to Granger”. (3) “Send Guyana’s MP back to nursery school.”- Dem boy seh. (4)(Guysuco)”Bond deal just a ploy for a few to make money on taxpayers backs-Jagdeo” (5) President’s appointment of Gecom chairman overrides constitutional democracy-Nandalall”. (6) Top police, GRA officers should declare assets-integrity commission head”. (7)” Stalled public school salary negotiations…Shortcomings in setting up arbitration panel indicative of illiteracy –GTU President.”
The above is a sneak preview of what the reporters at KN deal with on a daily basis. For a report to emanate from the IDB, stating that “Guyana’s politicians the most trusted by its citizens “, seems a far cry from reality. The working class or average citizens stares in disbelief at this report. They have heard and seen enough of the lies and deception and has tasted the venom over spilled from corruption by politicians. This is not about gut feelings, they know , deep in their hearts that they do not trust the politicians.
The amount of shortcomings identified by the IDB on oil and gas and domestic affairs over the past year makes this one occasion, away from negativity, look like a needle in a haystack. Two weeks ago the IDB had Guyana at number 26 among the most “shaming countries”. Every one of these lapses that had been cited by the IDB should have worked to erode the citizens confidence in the politicians. Where is the logic for the IDB to arrive at,” Guyanese citizens the most trusting of politicians”?There has to be some sort of pandemic infection invading the brains of the citizens for them to give an affirmative response to trusting of our politicians or perhaps something is wrong with the pia mater of the IDB personnel that did this survey.
It seems so surreal , after all the transgressions that had been meted out to the citizens by the politicians since independence to now that we should still be trusting our politicians the “most”, in relation to people in other Countries of the world.
I am inclined to believe that the IDB has this one wrong. If not, I would like the IDB to disseminate the methodology used to assimilate this seemingly provocative report.
