Forty year old Rudolph Lyken, a beverage vendor of D’urban Street, Werk-en-Rust, was yesterday charged for allegedly hitting his son on his head with a length of pipe.
The charge against the defendant read that on October 2, at Durban Street, Werk-en-Rust, he unlawfully wounded his ten-year-old son.
The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is alleged that on the day in question, at 8:00 hrs the defendant dealt the child a lash to his head, causing him to be injured.
The son was then taken to the hospital and the matter was reported to the police.
Reports to the police triggered an investigation and the defendant was arrested.
The prosecutor had no objection to bail and Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman ordered that the accused be released on $80,000 bail and return to court on November 2.
