That MoU with Trinidad is a great political move

I believe that one of the greatest political moves in the Caribbean, since the Treaty of Chaguaramas which was signed by some great Caribbean leaders on July 4, 1973, was done recently, when President Granger of Guyana and Prime Minister Rowley of Trinidad and Tobago signed an MoU between the two nations.
This act will see cooperation between the two nations that will benefit the entire Caribbean. When the Treaty of Chaguaramas was established, the vision of the four wise men was to have a Caribbean Community and Common Market, later known as CARICOM establish. This agreement was signed on July 4, 1973 in Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago, and the signatories were Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Since then, there have been ups and downs in regard to efforts to implement all aspects of the agreement. Many complaints were raised by Guyana about the treatment netted out to her citizens by some of our sister nations.
Some Guyanese are still left with a bitter taste in their mouths, for some sister nations because of this, and they argue that this should not have been done to them, since in her better days Guyana welcomed all with open arms.
When President Granger signed that MoU he showed that he was above tit for tat politics. This goodly gentleman has yet again displayed what being a nation’s leader, and statesman is all about. His first display was when he campaigned on a banner that call for the inclusion of all Guyanese, and not the ‘Winner take all’ that was promoted and abused by his opponents.
Some argue that Trinidad is here because of the oil riches, be that the case or not, I ask, why were Guyanese going to Trinidad, and Barbados? Was it not for a better life?
Mr. Rowley coming to Guyana shows that he also is above the likes of some who now call this agreement a sell out. He came to seek for the betterment for the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and not for himself and others of his race.
The signing of the Mou is another step to the fulfillment of the Caricom dream. It is not a selfish act, like that done to acquire Pradoville 2, and other state assets.
President David Granger is truly a messenger of unity, and not just unity of the races, but unity of the Caricom nations . L.F.S.
Burnham, Jagan,and Dr Eric Williams would have been proud of him .
To those workers who are afraid to lose their jobs , please be informed that oil is not gold, it requires technical skills that are not ready available in Guyana, but I am sure will be acquired while working alongside those coming to work here with the experience.
Finally, I must remind Guyana of that recent statistic that showed that a large percentage of our workforce does not possess above that primary certificate, and that there is a large number of dropouts from school and it has been going on for some time.
Perhaps, we may wish to ask those that were responsible for education during the past twenty years, why they did not do something to stop such failures.
The wise in every geographical region are coming together to strengthen the regions, why should we still be divided, by petty issues, such as who sat on the bench or race. As Guyanese, we must recognize that we know better, and when our Founder leader signed that Treaty he was looking out for us, and so is President David Granger. We therefore must trust him.
