Sep 17, 2018 Letters
Dear Editor,
Thank you for affording me a space in your newspaper to pen this letter in reply to the Junior Minister Of Social Protection article dated 2nd September, 2018 in Stabroek News captioned “Striking teachers are selfish, uncaring.”
I find the Minister’s statement appalling since him being a teacher by profession he has always been known to be on the side of teachers by supporting their struggle; he has now switched gear since the shoe is on the other foot. Talk about selling one’s soul to gain the world.
The statement “We do not sacrifice children. Children must not be used as pawns our responsibility must be to put children first, we can’t discard our care of them because we want a lil money.” How hypocritical of him, being the Minister of Social Protection and being a father abandoned his own child when he walked out on him at the tender age of nine years.
For the past eight and a half years he has no knowledge of how that child is living or being educated. Three years ago that child who carries his name asked him to assist him with a laptop to do research for school assignments, the Minister’s response to his child was and I quote “the same answers you will get on the computer count your fingers and you will get the same answers.”
He has stopped communicating with the child since. Tell me who is selfish, cheap and uncaring. Now he wants to tar the teachers- whose remuneration is nothing but an insult to their profession –with his brush.
I shudder to think that such a blind guide with ice water in his veins was tasked with being a mediator. Judging from his pompous arrogant statements which is riddled with lunacy is a clear indication that he is power drunk. Is he fit and proper to be in public office earning a fat salary and boasting about it?
My advice to him is to resign before you continue to embarrass yourself and your office any further.
