Businessman, Erwin Bacchus, who is accused of shooting his neighbour several times in the back, was yesterday served with statements in the matter.
Bacchus, who was granted $1.5 M bail on a manslaughter charge, yesterday appeared before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Bacchus, 45, the owner of the Tourist Villa Hotel and of 260 Fifth Avenue, Subryanville, is accused of killing his neighbour, Jason De Florimonte.
The allegation stated that on August 4 last, at Subryanville, Kitty, he unlawfully killed De Florimonte. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to him in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
However, Magistrate Azore after serving the defendant statements in the matter told the court that she would not be conducting the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) since she knows the deceased and his family.
She reassigned the matter back to Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan who will now have to assign another City Magistrate to conduct the PI.
The matter was adjourned until September 17. Bacchus is being represented by Attorney-at-Law, Glen Hanoman.
According to information, around 01:00 hrs on the day in question, De Florimonte was seen abusing a female and a handyman attached to the hotel went to part them. Soon after, an argument ensued between them.
The court was told that De Florimonte began attacking the handyman with a knife and rolling pin. It was then that Bacchus fired several shots at De Florimonte causing him to sustain injuries.
An autopsy conducted on 30-year-old De Florimonte, of 96 Fifth Avenue Subryanville, revealed that he was shot three times about his body.
