I notice with much amusement two articles on social media, one by ex- President of Guyana Mr Jagdeo calling for overseas involvement in the nation’s elections, and the other by Mr Lyte of the Guyana Teachers Union calling for overseas involvement in the matter of industrial disputes between the government and the teachers union.
While both articles show a lack of trust by both individual in the local professionals, they also show that these two gentlemen are thinking very much alike ,or one is an echo of the other.
Whatever the case may be, I think that their request is an insult to our national sovereignty.
Fellow Guyanese, have we not come of age as a nation after 50 years, that we cannot settle our own internal affairs?
During the dark times of Mr Jagdeo’s presidency no such call was made, even when there was evidence to suggest that the elections under him were rigged, and there were many human rights violations. Never was a call like Mr Lyte’s ever made by past trade union leaders for an internal labour issue. . I stand corrected by Mr Lincoln Lewis on this one.
Mr Lyte’s call suggest that there will be a collusion by local professional to defraud the teachers of Guyana of what should be made available to them . His stand also implies that the government in power is the most unfair government to teachers ever in Guyana. I do not know where he got his numbers from, but those I have seen suggest otherwise .
I wish to finally say , that if there is anything still childish about independent Guyana, it is our politics . Where selfish political figures are not ashamed to behave themselves like ball field bullies, who when not allowed to have their way, will choose to mash up the game. I pray that in spite of such follies Guyana and the promise of a bright future of all Guyanese will not be aborted .
Apostle Adrian Wade.
