Guyana represented for first time at World Archery Americas’ General Assembly

General Assembly 2018 at which Guyana was represented by Mr. Nicholas Hing.

Guyana for the first time was represented at the World Archery Americas General Assembly which was held in Medellin, Colombia on August 18, 2018.
Representing Guyana at this historic sitting was Mr. Nicholas Hing who expressed delight at being there at the General Assembly, noting in particular that it was exciting to hear all the news on upcoming competitions in the Americas and how we can all work together to develop the sport throughout the Region.
Archery Guyana sent official congratulations to Maria Emma Gaviria who was re-elected as president of World Archery Americas for a four-year term running until 2022 at the Confederation’s General Assembly, held during the 2018 Pan Am and Para Pan Am Championships in Medellin, Colombia.
She noted that there were 45 delegates from 26 countries during the General Assembly, with the British Virgin and Guyana taking part for the first time. President of WAA indicated that “It’s a big step forward and we will continue to work non-stop for archery in our continent.”
Cuba’s Sergio Font and Colombia’s Ana Maria Lopez were reassigned as Secretary General and Treasurer.
Financial and development reports were presented during the assembly and approved by the member associations in Medellin.
It was decided that Mexico City would host the 2020 Pan American Championships and the Tokyo 2020 continental qualification tournament for the Americas. Chile’s world ranking tournament in 2019 will act as the second qualifier for the Lima 2019 Pan Am Games.
Mexico and Brazil will also host world ranking events in 2019, while the Bahamas will run the 2019 Caribbean Developmental Championships.
