Yet another child rapist has been found guilty. This time it is 25-year-old Rowland Sam who was convicted of the crime yesterday by a 12-member mixed jury at the High Court in Georgetown.
Sam was on trial before Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in the Sexual Offences Courts. Based on the evidence presented in the trial, the jurors were convinced that Sam sexually penetrated a seven-year-old girl between January 1 and 31, 2015, in the county of Demerara.
The guilty verdict was in the proportion 10-2.
Sam who was represented by Attorney-at-Law Clyde Forde was remanded to prison until September 5, when he will be sentenced, following the presentation of a probation report.
The now convicted rapist was represented by Attorney-at-Law Clyde Forde, while the case for the State was presented by Prosecutors Lisa Cave and Orinthia Schmidt.
