Dear Editor,
Is there such a thing as a, “Higher standard of leadership?” The answer to this question resonates in a famous quote by John C. Maxwell: “Anyone can steer the ship, but it takes a leader to chart the course. Leaders who are good navigators are capable of taking their people just about anywhere.”
It is this visionary and committed leadership, which I and other youths of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) have found in Comrade Joseph Harmon. Having been a member of the Party’s Guyana Youth and Student Movement (GSYM) for the past 16 years and a serving member of the Executive, I fully endorse Comrade Harmon as Chairman of the PNCR.
Guyana is on the cusp of significant growth and development, where every citizen, particularly youths have a major role to play. While emphasis is being placed on the extractive sector, entrepreneurial opportunities exist in other sectors such as Agriculture, Information and Communications Technology and Services.
As such, the PNCR needs a strategic and assertive leader like Comrade Harmon to chart the course. His vision is deep-rooted in the PNCR’s policies; after all, his longstanding service to the Party provided him the opportunity to work closely with consecutive Party Leaders.
Let’s not forget his crucial leadership role as Campaign Manager of the 2011 and 2015 Election Campaigns. While I would have known Comrade Harmon prior to 2011, it was these two Elections that provided me the opportunity to experience a higher standard of leadership. He had the vision and set the course to accomplish the mission. He did not micromanage, he inspired and influenced. And indeed, victory was delivered in 2015.
I personally know that principal to his vision for the Party is empowered youths. Comrade Harmon believes that a skilled population is essential for nation building. As such, he prioritizes education and training not only by words but by actions. Publicly and behind closed doors, this Party Comrade has assisted many youths.
I am proud to know Comrade Harmon and experience his exceptional leadership skills. I am endorsing Joseph Harmon as Chairman of the PNCR. I know he possesses a higher standard of leadership skills.
Yours truly,
Dave Danny, Jr.
