UK based Guyanese poet enthralls with readings at National Library

Children and their parents had a special treat during the storytelling session last Saturday at the National Library.
Visiting Guyana-born performance poet, Ingrid Dover-Vidal joined US Embassy’s Public Affairs Officer Amanda Caudwell, as she shared her story about her journey to becoming a published poet.
Her audience eagerly participated in the call and response poetry and maintained the rhythm with timely clicks and beats on improvised instruments.
The author’s messages of perseverance, resilience and growth were well received by her audience, whose self esteem she aimed to boost.

One library user commented, “I thought poetry was difficult to understand, but ‘Forever True’, made me reflect on the habits that I needed to change before I could overcome my challenges to have the true success that I am capable of.”
If you missed Dover-Vidal’s readings last Saturday, she will be hosting a book launch and signing at the library at 17:00 hrs on Tuesday.
Her recently published poetry anthology is called Make it Shine.
It is a collection of cultural and inspirational poetry by Guyana-born, Ingrid Dover-Vidal.
Tuesday’s presentation will also include a Q&A session. Entry is free, but seats are limited.
Dover-Vidal will also be performing at the Berbice Emancipation Day, celebration at 53 Village, Corentyne.
She said that her goal is to inspire adults and especially young people to make the most of every opportunity.
She also hopes to help raise their self-esteem by reflecting and challenging cultural, educational and historical misunderstandings as well as celebrating future achievements.
Additional themes such as emancipation, cultural and spiritual identity will be reflected on in a poetic form.
