Banks DIH Limited representative Shenisa Fredericks hands over the Championship Trophy to Alisha Mohamed of the organizing committee, while Mortimer Stewart, Rawle Nedd (Banks Beer Manager) and Dennisa Paton look on.
The corporate community continues to show much support for the 12th annual Guyana Cup horserace meet that is set for August 19 at the Rising Sun Turf Club, West Coast Berbice. On Friday, local Beverage giant Banks DIH limited became one of the latest sponsors on board with the horserace Meet that is sure to attract many fans and turfites with a total prize purse of over $15million.
The announcement was made during the handing over of the Championship Trophy by Banks DIH Limited to the organisers during a simple ceremony at the Company’s Head office at Thirst Park on Friday. Alisha Mohamed, wife of Nasrudeen Mohamed, promoter of the event received the Trophy from Banks DIH Limited representative Shenisa Fredericks in the presence of Outdoor Events Manager Mortimer Stewart, and company officials.
Communications Manager Troy Peters said that Banks DIH Limited and the organizers of the Guyana Cup have had a long and fruitful partnership which has grown over the years.
Also adding to the long list of sponsors is Nand Persaud Company Limited, the manufacturers of Karibee Rice and A&A Engineering Services.
Sales Representative of the entity (Nand Persaud) Amanda Budhoo handed over the sponsorship cheque to Compton Sancho, one of the organisers of the event at the company’s number 36 village, Berbice. Mr Asquith Hamilton Snr of A&A Engineering Services presented the sponsorship to Shavhanand Gansan of the organisers.
Also throwing support behind the Guyana Cup recently have been Discount Store, Hand-in-hand Insurance, Superbet, Gizmos and Gadgets and Mazi nightclub of the USA.
The programme of events for the August 19th one-day meet has been released and as is customary, the C Class event is the main attraction.
The day’s full race programme reads as follows:

2) 3yr old Derby 1100M – purse: $2,000,000.
3) G1 and lower 1400M – purse: $1,550,000.
4) H3 and lower 1100M – purse $1,350,000.
5) 2yrs old Guyana Bred 1100M – purse: $680,000.
6) I class and lower 1400M – Purse: $581,000.
7) J3 and lower 1400M. Purse: $485,000.
8) L class 1400M – purse $390,000.
9) L class 1400M – purse $390,000.
10) L class 1100M – purse $290,000.
