Authorities are continuing their crackdown in ridding the country’s prisons of illegal items.
According to prison officials, yesterday between 16:45hrs and 18:12hrs, police officials and prison officers conducted a search at the New Amsterdam prison.
During the search the following articles were found: six cellular phones, 146 Ziploc bags of narcotics amounting to 292 grams, 12 phone chargers, five cigarettes, eight improvised weapons, three SIM cards, and seven lighters.
“This is yet another in our series of searches to make the prison safer. Please note that efforts are constantly being made to prevent the items from entering the prison,” a statement said.
