Forty-year old, Sunil Persaud, a city businessman, was yesterday remanded by Magistrate Annette Singh when he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on an assault charge.
It is alleged that on July 12, last, Persaud unlawfully assaulted and caused bodily harm to his aunt-in-law, Pauline Persaud.
Pauline Persaud reportedly went to Bourda Outpost and filed a complaint. She told the police officer that she was in front of a supermarket on Robb Street when the defendant approached her and started to use indecent language towards her.
The virtual complainant said she asked the defendant why he was cursing her. He responded by pushing and slapping her, she said.
Yesterday, Pauline Persaud gave a new story to the court. She said that the defendant didn’t slap her, that he just pushed her and her niece slapped her.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge and explained to the court that his wife and her aunt had a little scuffle and he went between the both of them to part.
Sunil Persaud is scheduled to reappear in court later this month.
