Just one day after a Tactical Services Unit (TSU) rank was busted while transporting marijuana, a member of the Joint Services has been caught committing the same offence.
A release stated that police, acting on information, stopped and searched a car at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge at around 02.30 hrs yesterday.
They found 927 grams of marijuana packed into several Ziploc bags. The driver, who is a member of the Joint Services, and two occupants were taken into custody.
Police had reported on Friday that intensified intelligence work by ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch and ‘C’ Division (East Coast Demerara), had resulted in the arrest of a police constable stationed at Force Headquarters. The man was allegedly trafficking in narcotics.
A release stated that the rank, who was driving a vehicle that was Georgetown-bound, was intercepted on Cove and John Public Road, East Coast Demerara, about 09:00hrs.
He is based at the TSU and was coming from Berbice, where he resides.
A search of the vehicle revealed several taped parcels of compressed cannabis, weighing in excess of 21 kilograms.
