Kassim Khan emerged like the warrior Odysseus as he conquered the opposition in his epic journey from just after 9:00 a.m. on Sunday last at the Lusignan Golf Course. Odyssey Transport Services – named after the book of the historic and legendary warrior that conquered much as he went several years through a long hard, adventurous and exciting journey – typifies adventure, excitement and positive memories as one is transported by jet boat to and from interior locations of Guyana.
CEO Feroze Barakat, a veteran golfer, by participating and winning a place in his Tournament, certified that adventure and positive memories are part of the Odyssey.
Despite slightly wet conditions after a heavy downpour early Sunday morning, golfers were enthused to take the journey for the prizes at the end of the tournament. The day’s events produced warning signs that the Guyana Open, set for November 2018, will have excitingly keen competition, as reigning champion Avinash Persaud was unable to place in the top four of the day’s Medal Play Tournament.
1st to 4th place winners were: Kassim Khan, 1st – 65/9; Mohanlall Dinanauth, 2nd – 66/6; Aleem Hussain, 3rd – 69/11; and Feroze Barakat, 4th – 70/18. Mohanlall Dinanauth (a former Guyana Open Male Champion), obtained the Best Gross trophy with a score of 72. But there was pleasant encouragement for the next 10 placers, as CEO Barakat distributed 10 gift bags in appreciation of the competitive spirit so many golfers exhibited. Those placing in that order included – Paton George 72/19;Patrick Prashad 74/9; Avinash Persaud 75/2; Ian Gouveia 75/15; Nazeem Haniff 76/8; Maurice Solomon 76/22; Miguel Oviedo 76/28; David Harry 77/12;Joaan Deo 78/17; and Danny Mangra 79/26.
Odyssey CEO Feroze Barakat, along with Manager Troy Khan and some three other Odyssey staff were on hand to congratulate the winners and distribute the awards. LGC President, Aleem Hussain and Dr Joaan Deo (standing in for Captain Chen Deo), expressed gratitude to Odyssey and the golfers who participated for their contribution to the day’s programme.
Odyssey Transport of 171A Light Street, Bourda, Georgetown, (Tf: 227-0334) and Lot 3 Hyde Park, Parika E.B.
